In our latest venue spotlight blog we profile Albert and Sydney – a full time function venue in the trendy north side suburb of Brunswick that’s available for all types of private functions, seven days a week! The super stylish venue was once one of Melbourne’s first ever banks and still has the original bank vault plus cool interior features such as wooden beams, leather booths and a marble bar.
We sat down with Venue Manager, Josie Bekker, to tell us more about what you can expect from an event at Albert and Sydney!
Tell us what makes Albert and Sydney stand out as a venue in Melbourne.
We are very lucky to be situated in a beautiful building with so much history. The building was the first state bank in the Northern Suburbs erected back in 1921. With the original exposed ceiling beams and the classic yet timeless styling of leather booths and vintage light fixtures it holds a very warm aesthetic- not to mention the preserved bank vault.
What sort of events do you hold throughout the year?
We do everything from private parties to business luncheons, and occasionally we open to the public. For instance, we held a fundraiser for Parma for a Farmer and for Easter weekend 2019 we will be serving a Vegan-Friendly and entirely Gluten-Free Easter Brunch Saturday April 20th.
What is included in your events packages?
Catering, cocktail and drinks packages, exclusive use of the venue including our beer garden, cleaning, security, complimentary tea light candles, customised drinks menus, accent flowers, and we can include DJ and photography hire as well. A dedicated functions manager will work with you every step of the way, taking the stress out of planning your event.
Tell us about your top three favourite events you’ve managed at Albert and Sydney.
An exciting event we held was with Your Corporate Kitchen, a team building and client entertainment company. Jarrod Di Blasi, Head Chef of Ezard, took over the kitchen and trained 16 North Melbourne players how to cook up a 5 course fine dining menu. The players then came back a week later to host, cook, and serve their own guests, the Shinboners. The many ways Albert and Sydney can be transformed never ceases to amaze me.
Parma for a Farmer was also one of my favourites as it was for such an important cause helping to raise funds for our Australian farmers affected by drought. Plus it is always great getting to open to the public and see the support from many of our friends and family who could attend.
More recently we hosted an engagement party for Tiana and Mason, who are some of the loveliest people you could ever hope to meet. A lot of time is spent with our guests planning every detail of their function and sometimes we become very close to them. By the end of their party they knew all of us by name. It is very touching sharing in the memories we help create.
What event tips do you have for potential clients looking to book at the venue?
We do our best to take a lot of the guess work and stress out of booking private events. That being said, booking ahead helps when securing your preferred date and checking with friends and family for any dietary restrictions and allergies is important.
What is the best way to get to Albert and Sydney?
We are close to the Brunswick train station and the 19 tram line but most street parking is also free after 6pm. If you forget where we are located it is right in the name as we are located on Albert St & Sydney Rd.
